πŸ₯‘ Savoring Japan in a healthy almost-vegan way is possible

Japan

January, 2024

I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but there are many things I don't eat. I don't eat meat (except fish when dining out), avoid fried foods (foods submerged in oils), and abstain from dairy. Simply put, I follow a very conscious and clean diet. You might wonder what I ate in Japan, as it's not particularly known for the healthiest cuisine in the world. The truth is, in the first few days, adapting was quite challenging, but I must say, if you look, you'll find.

Tsuta Ramen, Tokyo

This was the first ramen restaurant to receive a Michelin star (in 2015). It offers high-quality ramen at a very affordable price, and it has a vegan option. When I was there, the vegan option was sold out, but they served me a ramen without meat. To be honest, I'm not sure about the origin of the broth. πŸ˜…

Melting Pot, Kamakura

If you're on a day-trip to Kamakura, don't miss this place. It's super cozy and serves unique and healthy brunches. Their specialty is soups and cookies, and most of the vegetables they serve are locally sourced. It's wonderful; here's a photo of our brunch!

Tofuro Ginza Corridor Street, Tokyo

This is a very typical Japanese place. The tables are located in cubicles, and you have to take off your shoes to enter. It's located underground, like many restaurants in Japan. The food is good, and the price is very affordable. I recommend ordering, in addition to sushi, the creamy tofuβ€”it's very different from the tofu served in Spain. I still don't know if it was an appetizer or dessert. 😜

Tomy Muesli, Takayama

This place saved my life in Takayama. We arrived around 3 pm, and everything was closed except for this place and one specializing in meats πŸ™ˆ. We had an amazing meal, a menu that included a vegetable soup harvested on-site, a bowl of brown rice with spices, and a raw vegan cake. Delicious! I also bought several vegan protein bars to eat throughout the trip, which also saved me on several occasions.

Veg Out, Kyoto

Without a doubt, one of my favorite places. Kyoto is super vegan-friendly, and you could find many places like this. We were craving an avocado toast, and it exceeded our expectations. Also, the views of the river and the atmosphere of the place won me over. 😍

Chao chao gyozas, Kyoto

Here, you'll have to queue to get in. The place is very small but has very tasty gyoza. As you can see, I ordered all the vegan gyoza on the menu! πŸ˜ƒ

Common well, Kyoto

This restaurant is part of a hotel, and we had breakfast here almost every day we were in Kyoto. It was very close to the hotel and opened at 7 am, which is uncommon in Japan. They serve a very complete breakfast menu, but if you just want an avocado toast, you can order it without any problem, the will never say "No". Highly recommended!

Best Udon place @Hiroshima

I don't remember the name of this great place, but I had the best vegan udon of my life! It's close to the station; that's the only thing I remember. What a dish; I remember it, and my mouth waters. πŸ˜‹

Shinpachi Shokudo, Shinjuku, Tokyo

Without a doubt, in the top 3 of the best places to eat. Protein was something I missed throughout the trip, and this grilled salmon tasted like heaven. The specialty of the place, grilled fish; not vegan at all, but very necessary!

D.I.Y. Salad & Delicatessen, Lumine Shinjuku, Tokyo

If you fancy a good salad, you can't miss this place. We loved it, super complete, and perfect for vegans with lots of legumes, which I saw few of them throughout the trip...

Bills, Ginza, Tokyo

This place is located on the 12th floor of the Okura House Building. Very elegant, with many options. It's a bit more expensive than other places, but it's definitely worth it. We chose to have breakfast and dinner there. Deli πŸ˜‹ πŸ”

Kyushu Jangarasn Ginza, Tokyo

And the best, for last! I spent the whole trip looking for the best vegan ramen, and I found it here! Don't miss it; it's a must!

These are the best places I've been to, but there must be many more! I hope you enjoy eating healthy as much as I do and consider some of these places.

Enjoy! ⭐
