🌿 Self-Demand: A Journey to Self-Discovery
personal growth
Recently, I came across the phrase "Self-demand is violence," and it struck a chord with me. Throughout my life, I demanded more than necessary: in school, in sports, in university, and even in my relationships. If it wasn't perfect, it seemed not worth it.
Although self-demand still lingers in my life, I've found a much better balance. This shift began three years ago, a turning point that marked the start of transformation. I learned to let go, analyze myself more, and act based on how I feel rather than measuring up to perfectionism.
The revelation came during a Bikram Yoga class in Mallorca. I pushed a posture to the extreme, resulting in an injury. The initial MRI showed inflammation, triggering my anxiety. However, on repeating it, the results were perfect, no inflammation or issues.
This episode led me to start systemic therapy, recommended by my naturopath, Cati Palou. This form of psychotherapy focuses on understanding and addressing problems considering the context of an individual's relationships and social systems.
The therapy was enlightening, unearthing aspects I had deeply buried. Although self-demand persists, I learned to let go and flow more, especially in work, sports, and relationships. My relationship with myself has changed significantly, and that's what I value the most.
Practical Tips:
Identification: Recognize harmful self-demand.
Letting Go Step by Step: Learn to release gradually, listening to your body.
Seeking Support: Consider specific therapies, like systemic therapy, for external perspectives.
Self-Compassion: Love yourself, listen to yourself, and pamper yourself. It's the key to being well with yourself and others.
On your journey to self-discovery, remember that self-demand can transform into self-love.
Love yourself a lot! 💚✨
